Shopify Magic is free, lives in the description box of every product, and turns a title plus a few keywords into a decent first draft. So why do merchants go looking for Shopify Magic alternatives? Usually because the catalog outgrew the button. Why look past Shopify Magic
Magic deserves credit first. It's a set of free AI features included on every Shopify plan. In the product editor you click Generate text in the description box, give it the product title and at least two features or keywords, and it writes a description in the language of your prompt, in a preset tone or one you describe. Sidekick, the chat assistant Shopify now leads with (shopify.com/magic redirects to its page), also comes with your plan. It can create or edit products and fill in admin fields from plain-language instructions, and every change waits for your approval. For fixing one listing, that's hard to beat.
The gaps show up with volume. The description generator works on one open product at a time, and Shopify's own App Store page for "Shopify Magic for product descriptions" marks titles, SEO titles, SEO descriptions, alt text and bulk editing as not supported. It doesn't run on iPhone or Android either. Sidekick takes bigger requests in chat, and one of Shopify's sample prompts asks it to write product descriptions for SEO, but its help docs don't say how many products one request can cover or how to undo a batch of changes. Import 800 products with 150-character supplier titles and the description generator alone means 800 prompts, then the titles and SEO fields by hand.
How we picked
We started from the Shopify App Store results for "ai product description", "bulk product description" and "shopify magic", then added the outside tools merchants use when Magic's copy doesn't sound like their brand. Every pick had to do something Magic's description generator doesn't, and each is ranked by the one job it does best. We did not install every app on this list; facts about the others come from their App Store listings, help centers and pricing pages, and facts about Shopify Magic and Sidekick from Shopify's Help Center and the feature's App Store page. Prices, ratings and review counts were checked in September 2026.

Unlike Shopify Magic, it works across the whole catalog in one run, and any run can be reverted with one click. Long supplier titles become clear product names, and messy or foreign-language supplier text becomes readable copy in your store's language (100+ languages). It was called Norlif AI Product Enhancer until September 2026.
You filter by collection or vendor, write your style instructions once, and run titles, descriptions, meta descriptions and categories together. Descriptions come with a clean spec table, you review the results, and Auto mode covers new products as they're added. A full rewrite costs up to 3 credits per product: 1 for the title (SEO page title included), 1 for the description (meta description included) and 1 for the category, charged only when the product had none. The 100 free credits on install cover about 33 products. After that, credits come in one-time packs of $5 (500 credits), $19 (2,375), $49 (7,350) and $99 (19,800), and failed or skipped products aren't charged.
The catch: It costs money where Magic doesn't: a full rewrite of 1,000 products uses up to 3,000 credits. It's also young (launched March 4, 2026, 8 reviews so far) and works on Shopify only.

Unlike Shopify Magic, ChatGPT AI Product Description by Profitonium is a Shopify app that writes content automatically when you add new products, and it does titles, SEO metadata and image alt text as well as descriptions, in bulk. It's the most-reviewed dedicated description app in the App Store results for "ai product description", carries the Built for Shopify badge, and has been listed since March 2021.
Its extras are about accuracy at volume. It can read product images, search the web, follow custom formatting instructions and write in 30+ languages, and you can choose ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude models. The free plan gives 100 credits a month; Basic is $19/month for 2,000 credits, Standard $49 for 11,000 and Pro $249 for 110,000.
The catch: Past the free tier it's a monthly subscription, which fits steady product intake better than a one-time cleanup. The listing doesn't mention undoing a bulk run, so test on one collection first.
Who it's for: Stores that add products every week and want descriptions, SEO fields and alt text written as items arrive.

Unlike Shopify Magic, Avada AI Product Description writes from saved content templates, so a bulk run keeps the same brand voice and writing style across products. It's a Shopify app from Avada SEO Suite that writes product descriptions and meta descriptions for one product or the whole catalog, plus collection descriptions. Shopify lists prompt templates as not supported for Magic's description generator, so there your style notes go into each prompt.
The free plan includes 150 credits and up to 20 outputs per generation on GPT-4.1 mini. Pro costs $14.90 a month ($149 a year) for 5,000 credits a month, unlimited outputs per generation, a choice of GPT-4.1 or Claude Sonnet 4, custom templates and an AI image reader. It launched in May 2025.
The catch: Very large runs need patience. One reviewer who tried more than 4,000 products at once was advised by support to work in batches of 50 to 100.

Unlike Shopify Magic, Describely audits your catalog before it writes: it scores each product for Google, AI search (GEO) and conversions and points out thin descriptions, missing specs and weak meta tags. It's a product content app for high-volume Shopify catalogs that can then research and fill in missing attributes and generate titles, descriptions, bullets, meta tags and metafields in bulk, with content rules per category.
That makes it closer to a lightweight PIM than a writing button. The free plan covers 5 products. After that it's $0.75 per product pay-as-you-go, $28 a month for 50 products or $138 a month for 250.
The catch: Pricing is per product, and Describely's own site lists pay-as-you-go for up to 500 products, with custom pricing for bigger catalogs. It also has only 3 App Store reviews, despite launching in June 2024.
Who it's for: Catalog managers who need to find and fill missing product data before rewriting, and who care about showing up in AI search.

Unlike Shopify Magic, ChatGPT can rewrite a batch of products at once, SEO titles and meta descriptions included, when you pair it with Shopify's product CSV export and import. It's OpenAI's general AI assistant and the do-it-yourself option on this list. Export your products, paste batches of rows into ChatGPT with your style rules, and ask for new Description, SEO title and SEO description values. Then import the file with "Overwrite products with matching handles" turned on.
It costs nothing beyond a ChatGPT plan, and you control every word. Shopify's CSV rules are strict, though. An update file needs the URL handle and Title columns, SEO titles are capped at 70 characters and SEO descriptions at 320, and editing variant columns without the Option1 columns deletes existing variants. The catch: It's slow, careful work, and a blank cell in an included column overwrites that field with nothing. Keep your original export as the backup.
